My real name is Emma Ceci, but I became Emma Gritte as a tribute to surrealist genius René Magritte, whose most iconic works often feature the word “CECI” (Ceci n’est pas une pipe).
His art taught me a truth I carry with me: what you see is never the whole story.
And no, it’s definitely not because of the glitters.
2. VILLE NUEVE, Please
As a kid, I could never pronounce the name of F1 driver Jacques Villeneuve. I read it in Spanish: “Ville Nueve.” My cousins teased me endlessly and maybe that’s when my curiosity for F1 was born, in the most unexpected, slightly mispronounced way.
